    Qualified Fire Door Technician Training and Certification

    (3-day program) Do you install or maintain fire door opening assemblies? Can you recognize and utilize the codes that affect these openings in order to assemble the opening components in accordance with those codes and standards? Do you know the difference between a jobsite preparation and a field modification? Come learn the proper methods for installing swinging doors with builders hardware to assure your openings are in compliance with NFPA 80’s 13 points of inspection.

    After successfully completing this training course, attendees will be able to:

    1. Recognize and utilize the codes affecting door opening assemblies in order to assemble opening components in accordance with those codes and standards.
    2. Distinguish between improper and proper installation methods for swinging doors with builders hardware.
    3. Evaluate the difference between jobsite preparations and field modifications to assure code compliant installation.
    4. Verify installed fire rated openings are in compliance with the 13 inspection points of NFPA 80.

    The following course material will be provided to attendees:     

    • QFDT Course Manual
    • NFPA 80 – Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives (2019)
    • NFPA 105 – Standard for Smoke Doors and Other Opening Protectives (2019)
    • Inspection Mirror and Magnet Kit
    • NGP Door Inspection Tool

      At the conclusion of this course, attendees will take a computerized certification exam. Those who pass the exam with a minimum score of 80% will receive the Qualified Fire Door Technician (QFDT) certification, certificate, hard hat sticker and ID badge.

      22 Contact Hours - Eligible for 2.2 IACET CEUs

      Course cost includes breakfast (for hotel guests only), lunch and morning/afternoon snack each day of class.

      Qualified Fire Door Inspector Training and Certification

      (4-day program) Interested in becoming a fire door inspector? Come learn from qualified, certified, door opening industry experts who understand the total opening and are out there inspecting. Become familiar with the codes and standards affecting fire rated door opening assemblies. Acquire the skills to analyze fire rated openings and their components, research and evaluate products for compliance and create and submit required reporting to facility owners.

      After successfully completing this training course, attendees will be able to:

        1. Identify and utilize the codes affecting fire rated door opening assemblies.
        2. Perform visual inspections and acceptance testing of swinging doors with builders hardware in accordance with the applicable codes and standards.
        3. Detect the differences between allowable jobsite preparations and field modifications to determine if openings being inspected are code compliant.
        4. Research and evaluate products for fire rated openings of different generations and classifications.
        5. Create and submit inspection reports required by the codes for facilities to be kept for inspection by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
        6. Prescribe corrective products and processes to bring failing openings back into compliance.

          At the conclusion of this course, attendees will take a computerized certification exam. Those who pass the exam with a minimum score of 80% will receive the Qualified Fire Door Inspector (QFDI) certification, certificate, hard hat sticker and ID badge.

          Recommended prior learning: Opening Industry Bootcamp course or equivalent training.
