Learn the fundamentals of door inspection practices in this instructor-led course. Participants will gain an understanding of the codes and standards governing fire-rated, smoke, and egress door openings; learn the fundamental criteria used during visual inspections and functional testing; recognize common installation and maintenance deficiencies; identify allowable jobsite preparations and field modifications; and explore code-compliant solutions for bringing non-compliant openings back into compliance.

After participating in this session, attendees should be able to:
- Identify the codes and standards affecting fire-rated, smoke, and egress door opening assemblies.
- Recognize the fundamental inspection and testing criteria applicable to swinging fire, smoke, and egress door assemblies.
- Distinguish between improper and proper installation and maintenance practices for swinging doors with builders hardware.
- Indicate the differences between allowable jobsite preparations, maintenance activities, and field modifications.
- Recognize common deficiencies that can affect the operation or compliance of fire, smoke, and egress door assemblies.
- Identify code-compliant corrective products and processes available to bring non-compliant openings back into compliance.
- Describe the basic documentation and reporting requirements associated with door inspections.

Students must attend all sessions to receive certificate of completion.
Participation Policy
Success in a learning event depends on active participation and engagement by the attendee throughout the course. To earn a course completion certificate for any DOIT learning event, attendees are required to fully participate in the training activities, lectures, and discussion. This applies to those attending in-person and remotely. Participation is defined as greater than 90% attendance of the scheduled course time and active engagement verified by the instructor. Remote participation requires a working webcam and microphone; the webcam must be activated throughout the learning event.
Automated end of class exams are delivered via DOITs Learning Management System at the end of the course, students must achieve a minimum 80% on the exam to pass the course.
