Qualified Fire Door Technician Training and 

Certification Class

After successfully completing this training course, attendees will be able to:

  • Recognize and utilize the codes affecting door opening assemblies in order to assemble opening components in accordance with those codes and standards.
  • Distinguish between improper and proper installation methods for swinging doors with builders hardware.
  • Evaluate the difference between jobsite preparations and field modifications to assure code compliant installation.
  • Verify installed fire rated openings are in compliance with the 13 inspection points of NFPA 80.

At the conclusion of this course, attendees will take a computerized certification exam. Those who pass the exam will receive the Qualified Fire Door Technician (QFDT) certification, certificate, hard hat sticker and ID badge.



Qualified Fire Door Inspector Training and 

Certification Class

After successfully completing this training course, attendees will be able to:


  • Identify and utilize the codes affecting fire rated door opening assemblies.
  • Perform visual inspections and acceptance testing of swinging doors with builders hardware in accordance with the applicable codes and standards.
  • Detect the differences between allowable jobsite preparations and field modifications to determine if openings being inspected are code compliant.
  • Research and evaluate products for fire rated openings of different generations and classifications.
  • Create and submit inspection reports required by the codes for facilities to be kept for inspection by the AHJ.
  • Prescribe corrective products and processes to bring failing openings back into compliance.

At the conclusion of this course, attendees will take a computerized certification exam. Those who pass the exam will receive the Qualified Fire Door Inspector (QFDI) certification, certificate, hard hat sticker and ID badge.

Associate Door Opening Consultant (ADOC) Certification Exam

An ADOC is certified to consult on projects of moderate complexity.

Their qualifications include:

  • Accurate Detailing and Estimation: Capable of accurately detailing and estimating costs for moderately complex projects, such as office buildings, medical clinics, or schools.
  • Basic Project Management Proficiency: Able to set up project management plans outlining tasks,  duration, and deadlines to align with the General Contractor's schedule, ensuring smooth project execution.
  • Fundamental Code and Application Understanding: Demonstrates a foundational understanding of fire safety, life safety, accessibility, and building codes pertaining to door openings, enabling identification and resolution of basic code errors and application issues.
  • Effective Meeting Facilitation and Documentation: Competent in conducting keying meetings and documenting outcomes accurately, ensuring clear communication and alignment among stakeholders regarding keying requirements.
  • Basic Construction Contracting Knowledge: Possesses knowledge of basic construction contracting principles, including contracting methods, schedules, sequencing, change order processes, and dispute resolution, facilitating collaboration within project teams and adherence to project timelines and budgets.

Upon successfully completing the computerized certification exam with a passing score of 80%, examinees will be awarded the Associate Door Opening Consultant (ADOC) certification and certificate.


Upcoming events

Certifications require renewal three years from date of receipt of certificate.

20-contact hours (2 CEU) of continuing education is required for renewal.

1 CEU = 10 contact hours
